Dr. Brian Foster serves as Medical Director of Updegraff Laser Vision and sees patients at Updegraff Laser Vision and The Eye Associates. He specializes in laser cataract surgery, clear lens replacement, LASIK, and ICL, and has performed tens of thousands of eye surgeries in his career. Dr. Foster is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology (Maintenance of Certification). He is passionate about advancing the field of ophthalmology, having participated in numerous clinical trials involving advanced technology intraocular lenses, corneal disease, dry eye disease, and perioperative medications.
Dr. Foster received his medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine, where he then completed his medical internship. He went on to an Ophthalmology Residency at Wake Forest University before completing his fellowship training in cornea and external disease at the prestigious Eye Consultants of Atlanta. During the fellowship, he performed several hundred corneal transplants, in addition to hundreds of cataract surgeries and LASIK.
Dr. Foster has a heart for the blind in the developing world, where an inexpensive ten-minute operation can be life-changing for a patient and their family. He regularly travels to Central America to cure blindness through cataract surgery and corneal transplantation.
Teaching is also very important to Dr. Foster. He teaches advanced cataract surgery techniques to medical students, residents, and fellows in Central America and in the US. He is a Wake Forest University Clinical Instructor and co-founding member of the Wake ECHO global ophthalmology team, and teaches medical students as an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Lake Erie College of Medicine in Bradenton, FL. He also lectures regularly to community eye doctors and patients on the latest techniques in cataract and refractive surgery.
Dr. Foster is married to Erika and they have four teenagers with a wide variety of interests. His hobbies include salt and freshwater fishing, boating, weight training, and loving on his labrador retrievers. Dr. Foster is a youth leader and serves on the board of Oasis Church in Lakewood Ranch.
